Landmates

Today our landmates arrive.  Well, this evening.  They are escaping, or perhaps for the younger being brought along from, the outskirts of Boston for our much smaller area and no Car Talk  accents.  Xia and her teenage daughter Jasmine and Bella the cat are coming to live in our tiny cabin, which is somewhat renovated since we lived in it after the fire, for the foreseeable future.

We’re still working on the renovations, but we’ve gotten it to the point that it’s mostly ready to live in again.  And later this summer, building and finishing the other side of the building will commence, doubling the size of the living space.  We’ll see how far three women, a six year old girl, and John on his days off work can get before school starts.

We still have drywall to put on an interior wall, that separates the bathroom from the kitchen/laundry area — we got a door put in, but it’s beside studs without any wall on them.  And the stove we use died in the time since we lived there, but we’ve found a replacement which we should be able to get within the next day or two.  One window still needs a screen, which is an odd size so it needs to be built.  We have the things to build it, it just has to happen.  The drywall in the kitchen and bathroom has to be painted, but Xia wanted some work left for her.  I think she intends to paint it purple.  The floor has to be finished in there — John has linoleum saved from the house for that.

Logan and I have some final chores to do this morning, mop the dust off the floor, take out a last few things left from cleaning and working.  Put in towels figuring that theirs won’t come on the airplane with them.  Plus exciting things like folding enough of our own laundry to find clothing and watering the garden.
