Water
For the second time in a month we’ve run short of water in the well. It seems to happen every year, somehow our consumption gets ahead of the wells production. We thought we’d gotten to a safe point, so we tried doing laundry at home again this week, but two loads in two days (all we’ve done) was too much, and we’re out of water again. Back to the Laundromat, and no showers tonight. We’ve got creek water on the stove to boil for washing up with and washing dishes with. At this rate I’m going to go to drought measures for the well!
John’s looking in to what it will take to plumb in the creek water (our “water rights” stock and garden water from the year round creek) to the house through a UV filter. Yet more money to set it up, but then no shortages at odd times of year. The well tends to go out when we’re hot and sweaty, or soaked with rain and mud. Such is life. Today (Sunday) it’s after a day of dusty horse riding lessons for Logan and Jasmine, and a weekend of firewood work for all of us.
We did get our first load of firewood in to the wood shed yesterday. Logan lifted every piece (I think) either putting in or taking out of the truck. Jasmine tossed them to John, and John stacked. Xia, Jasmine, Logan and I did the first half of truck loading one day earlier in the week, then the girls and John and I finished it yesterday. It’s a little disappointing to see the truck full make one stack at the end of the wood shed, although the stack does go higher than my head. Logan and Jasmine collected a big handful of bones from a past deceased sheep as well — lending credence to the Dreams and Bones name. One day we’ll have to make a sign for our gate. Maybe the girls would like to work on painting one, I’ll have to ask.
Now it’s Monday, so I’m getting this posted. We’ve adjusted our plans for the day to be out of the house most of the day and give the well more of a chance to recover. A little school clothes shopping in Roseburg. A few errands there and in Drain. Jasmine gets to pick up her kitten, adopted from the SPCA shelter — Logan and I will play with the two we like, if they are over their colds and back in the main kitten room yet. She and I haven’t adopted them, but we certainly know them well. Tomorrow it’s back to Eugene for another round of this that and the other appointment, plus hunting for leggings to fit Logan’s ever lengthening legs.

Hey Folks. This is advanced notice that the blog will be down a week or so. Server moves and some stuff beyond our control. Not much notice I know.
