Continued Chickenpox

The count is over 70 “chickens” in all stages with more appearing slowly now.  Some are more annoying or itchy, especially if they get  warm (like the one at the crease of her neck) or  rubbed by clothing much.  Logan fell asleep when I went down stairs to bring up my supper last night, and woke up as I was falling asleep, after John was very soundly asleep.  John slept through three trips to the bathroom, the search for a homeopathic remedy which someone recommended and seems to help decrease the general malaise, and the application of Caladryl and a Rescue Remady cream both of which help cut down on itching or pain.

This morning Logan is having an oatmeal bath, and some eggnog (Silk soy eggnog flavor).  She didn’t eat last night, so with luck she’ll be hungry this morning.  And the doctor’s instructions, because she still has the cough from her last cold, are to keep her full of hot sweet liquids (sweet to make them easy on the throat and more likely to be consumed), and surrounded by steam whenever possible.  The eggnog isn’t hot, but we’ll move on to hot cider and tea later on.  There’s also gateraid in the house, again.  John and she each have prescription cough syrup, and John has antibiotics that he is to fill if he’s still coughing in ten days.  So far I haven’t caught the coughing bug, but I wear two undershirts, a long sleeved shirt and often a sweater for the day, which is helping, I think.  Or I’ve just been lucky so far.

I had vitamin C out for Logan to take last night,  except that she was asleep when I brought it up.  I’ll try for that later this morning.

Our first play date to share the chickenpox was at least successful in distracting Logan from feeling cruddy while she played.  She was sad when the time was up (the other little girl had to be somewhere), and was delighted later to have been able to hold the one-year-old sibling briefly.  Sibling had important crawling to do again and needed to get down after a little while.  We’ll probably see some other kids on different days, which will help pass the time while we’re stuck in Eugene, and save my voice from entire days of reading.

  1. Aw, poor thing. I hope she recovers rapidly, and,… doesn’t get any scars . Chickenpox went around Greta’s school recently as well. Hugs to all.

  2. btw I put in a fake html “end shallow” after the scar comment but it didn’t show up. Didn’t mean for the comment to come across quite the way it does without it.

  3. “end shallow” ? Oh, got it. :-) Not much scratching — fewer than 100 pox overall, and mostly scabbed over, except for one on her palm that’s stubborn. Still no school tomorrow, but we’ll see.

Nine kids out of first grade so far!

  4. I’m sorry we missed getting Aidan and Taylor contaminated! I have high hopes for the next round…. I left my new email address in this reply form, perhaps we can get our computers to talk with each other yet. The automatic “Send a Note” to Penelope is not working for me. Andrea
