“Charlie She’s a Fine Young Lamb,
Charlie she’s a dandy… ” It’s a slight perversion of a quote of a song from the Little House books. More lyrics Our first lamb of the season was born this morning, a nice looking ewe who Logan and Jasmine have claimed to tame and raise and named “Charlie”. I’ll photograph her later on and see about posting a picture if there’s a good one. Her mother, Ezri, was the first to lamb last year too with one we didn’t plan to keep (she’ll go to auction when the rest do this month or next) because of her lack of black spotting and genetic problems typical of the Jacob Sheep from time to time. This one shows all signs of being a keeper.
The name theme for this year is going to be names from the Little House series (Rose, Laura and Caroline years I’m thinking!)
We had icy cold weather last week, two mornings where our remaining half of the indoor/outdoor thermometer (the outdoor half broke last year, so we take the indoor half outside for half an hour — I really need to replace the whole thing!) read 18 degrees F. There were very pretty icicles hanging from rocks along the freeway that we looked at on the drive to and from the school. On Thursday night we got light snow on our drive home. There’s more forecast for this weekend, but the forecasts have been off a good bit of the time, so I’ll wait and see.
It’s the time of year that the Eugene Waldorf School has it’s annual Raffle and Auction to raise money for the school. This is part of how the school meets its budget and keeps funding the scholarships that help many children attend school. I’m selling raffle tickets, as are all parents. First prize is air fare for two to Kauai Hawaii and six nights in a home that sleeps six. Tickets are one for $5 or three for $10. Any takers? Of course if you’ve got something you’d like to donate for the auction I’d be happy to relay that too, or you can go directly to the school for more information on either — I don’t know if raffle and auction information is on the web page currently, but the school’s contact info is. EWS web page Second and third prize are a 4G Ipod Nano and a Digital Camera. Oh, and the Raffle and Auction both take place March 8, but you don’t have to be there to win the Raffle.
