Easter at Nonny’s
I think that’s been my title before, but since it would have been other years, it’s probably OK. We ran late and got there as the +/- 18 month olds were in the midst of their hunt. Logan was out of the car and on her way over to join the crowd watching as soon as we stopped, and Finn came to meet her and hunted for her eggs with Logan in tow for the rest of the time. Logan and I worked it out at home later, Logan is more or less six years older than Finn! Her dad got some pictures, and John got a couple, I need to write to Finn’s folks and find out if I can post one with her and Logan together.
It turned out that a family with three children and a family with two had canceled, leaving five missing. Including Logan there were only four there, so I’m not sure who the other one would have been to make ten. Logan was a little disappointed not to see any of the girls she’s friends with, but had a lot of fun with Finn and Dalton. I think she may have completely ignored David, the one other kid, as too big to play with at age 12. Everyone from Dalton the youngest to Grandpa (Susan’s Dad) the oldest trecked off on the big kids easter egg hunt.
Here you can see the back of Becca’s (Susan’s oldest daughter) green and plaid, then Grandpa’s back, Susan’s back as she pulls the farm wagon, the top of Dalton’s head, one of Finn’s ponytails, and Logan’s back as she pushes the wagon. Logan pushed on a bunch of the upslopes to help out whomever was pulling the little ones.
Here you’ve got Becca and her son David in the distance, and then John’s back, Logan’s back and Gooey Finn’s dad, who is Susan’s son who took our pictures at thanksgiving, pulling the wagon, and again the back of Finn’s head in the Wagon. The majority of my pictures are this sort. I didn’t try to run ahead and turn around.
I did get a couple that were more posed, or where folks held still. And Logan took quite a few that came out well, although I’ll leave you without her “Susan’s Shoulder” shot for today.
I took the two Logan’s in. Logan took the two she’s not in. Mopba gets what he deserves for that picture, he sat looking much more respectable until he saw Logan’s finger begin to move on the shutter, about six times. It was very funny to me, to Logan, and to him. But I wouldn’t want him to think I didn’t follow up on these little details.
The cooked eggs got eaten immediately in some cases. Logan ate six or seven through out the day I think. Many got deviled as well. Logan and I will make some deviled at home too, and some potato salad this week. The plastic eggs from us contained flat-on-one-side glass gems, “gnome nuggets” at school. They come in pretty colors. We found them at the stained glass making store by chance, but they show up in other places. Others contained grow into stuff sponges, toy cars (Logan gave hers to Finn) candy, and change. It gives me some ideas for next year. Big bills would go over really well, for at least some egg hunters. Oh, and one plastic egg had a real egg inside. Our chocolate bunnies went to adults and children because of the lack of children — we’ll make some more to mail out. If I learn to winnow I could make chocolate this week. As it is I need to get John to start some so it can refine while I’m home one day. Logan greatly liked her bunny, and there’s one saved for Dad, who’s been waiting for milk chocolate for quite a while.
On a chocolate note, for anyone who cares, I have my own article up on chocolate alchemy. You can see it at http://chocolatealchemy.com/chocolate-making-at-home-101/
