Swimming Lessons
Logan’s been in swimming lessons since the beginning of the school year, plus a couple months at the end of last school year. These are private, just her and the teacher, along with all the other kids having their private lessons at the same time. They’re at a heated pool indoors, which is lovely and steamy as I sit to watch the lessons too. She’s moved from not wanting to get her face wet at the beginning last spring, to swimming the whole length of the pool currently. She’s not graceful yet, and might not think to swim if she fell in to water unexpectedly but she can swim enough to enjoy the water a lot. She’s planning to continue her lessons through high school at the moment. I’m not sure exactly what she’d be learning at that point. Water ballet? Currently, aside from the learning-to-swim aspect, the classes work as an extra exercise and a chance to burn off some excess energy a couple of days a week.
These are actually pictures of three separate jumps. But they worked well together. Jump and recover on her own is one of the skills Logan’s mastered, but loves to do because it’s fun. I think Jump and swim somewhere will come soon.

I had to lighten these two, my flash didn’t reach far enough across to make a difference. They’ll be better if you click to enlarge them too. Logan is the further back underwater person in the second one. Her teacher is underwater watching her. I didn’t hit the shutter at the right time to show her arms moving, or her shifted to breathe. The timing is tricking to get that because I can’t tell when she’s going to do it.
The first time I tried to get a picture like this, Logan waited until she saw my finger start to move, and then ducked out of sight. The second time her teacher told her to behave so I could take the picture and they could go back to swimming. This day Logan also planned to take it easy because of her cough, and then felt better in the water (warm steam) and instead of stopping by the teacher at 1/3 or 1/2 way kept going and swam the whole length of the pool. She kept count and swam the pool eight times that day.
I’m waiting for her to learn other strokes beyond the crawl and glide, although she also does something on her back, back stroke I presume. Or a back glide. Logan wants me to take lessons along with her, but I think I’ll wait until she’s done. Perhaps when she has all long days and can’t take them during the school year. We’ll have to do summer lessons then!
