Hot
The outdoor thermometer said it was 101 when it was sitting in the sun. We moved it and now it says 79. Out in Sutherlin to drop the truck off for repair today we saw kids in a yard running under a hose someone was holding though. It was definitely a hot day. There was also a man walking down the street in what appeared to be a camouflage wet suite and shorts. I’m still trying to puzzle that one out. It was in dessert colors too. Cammo to keep you hidden from all those dessert folks under water?
The forecast says we’ll be back to decently cool weather monday or tuesday. This is not what it should be like in April!
We bought our first furniture from the Ikea courtesy of Kari’s personal shopper service. Kari’s a mom from school who was going to Portland, where the Ikea is, shortly after I complained of wanting a shoe holder of the sort I’d seen from there once. They don’t do those things by mail order and I’m never up there. So she phoned me and said “I’m standing in front of these things, do you want one?” She also brought me back a hat rack, so that instead of three pegs with about twelve hats on them, on the floor, and under the cats we’ll now have more hooks than hats! Pictures are on the Ikea site: Leksvik Shoe Holder Leksvik Hat Rack
They’re both solid wood, no press board. They came dis-assembled. The instructions, in order to be universally clear, were pictoral. Over all they worked well. On the hat rack there was one piece that was symetrical, as we found after assembling it backwards. But it disassembled and reassembled well too. Logan was able to set bolts and lock nuts. The pieces are cleverly made. Mom would be pleased, but not so pleased that I’m going to mail her mine. Maybe if I shop there and find something small…
John is going at top speed with roaster repair. It’s interesting to see what’s been claimed as the problem when they come in, and what the reality is. One was labeled “damaged” The packing was all origional, no problem in shipping obviously, we figured it must be something that showed up while it was running. It ran fine. The John spotted a dent in the top back corner. Strangely enough what you would get if it were on your counter and you opened the cupboard over it and dropped something heavy on that corner — like a blender, a heavy mixing bowl, the kind of crystal decanter you’d see used as a weapon. John’s on the phone now with Joe-the-roaster-maker and grumbled about what that particular buyer must have done and then had the gall to ask to have his roaster replaced! That one’s already set to be listed for sale as refurbished — John removed the two metal panels that were dented and replaced them with those from a dead machine.
Tomorrow we’ll pack cocoa bean orders, fix sheep fences, do laundry, and all the rest of the fun weekend stuff. It’s at least a quiet weekend!
