Farewell My Friends

The EWS eighth grade graduates tomorrow, so I’ve had the Parting Friends song in my head today.

Farewell my friends I’m bound for Canaan

I travel through the wilderness

Your company has been delightful

You do not leave my mind distressed

I go away behind to leave you

Perhaps never to meet again

But if we never have the pleasure

Perhaps we’ll meet on Canaan’s land.

I saw a reference to how old the song was somewhere and now I can’t find it again. It’s been sung at a bunch of renaissance fairs, but it’s much older then they are.

Tomorrow Logan and all the first grade class get to give their Eighth Grade Buddies roses, as the eighth grade gave each first grader a rose at the beginning of the year. Logan and Ariel who shared their buddy Celine will each give her one, I believe. We’ll be saying goodbye, or more appropriately farewell to Celine, Scarlet, Zane, Jeremy and all the other kids whose faces I know better than their names as they go to enjoy their summer before starting which ever version of high school they are going to.

One week after that is the last day of school with an assembly for all the rest of the grades. I’m not sure what happens, although I think each class goes up on stage again as they do for most assemblies. I’ll let you folks know.
